Dyson HushJet Mini Cool Puts Air Multiplier Technology in a Handheld Fan

Dyson’s Air Multiplier changed the game for electric fans, eliminating the dangerous blades and excessive noise of the air-circulating appliance. This time around, the outfit is shrinking the same technology into a handheld cooler called the Dyson HushJet Mini Cool.

That’s right, Dyson is making a handheld fan that you can use to keep yourself cool during hot days in a pinch. Like their Air Multiplier fans, it doesn’t have any spinning blades that can catch your finger or get tangled up in your long hair, making it very convenient to pull when it gets a little too hot while you’re out and about.

The Dyson HushJet Mini Cool looks like a flashlight, measuring 7.9 x 1.5 inches (length x diameter). It’s not pocketable, but it’s compact enough to slip inside a backpack, shoulder bag, or beach tote, all while coming with an included lanyard, so you can hang it around your neck to keep it within easy reach at all times. Like their bigger fans, all the moving parts are housed inside the cylindrical body, so all you get is air blowing out of the nozzle on top to cool you down during hot days. The nozzle, by the way, can be rotated a full 360-degrees, making it easy to direct the air exactly where you want it go.

According to the outfit, it delivers powerful cooling via a 65,000 RPM motor that can produce airflow up to 55 mph. It comes with five fans speeds, so you can do a light breeze or boost it to maximum airflow, depending on what you need. To ensure quiet operation, it uses an acoustically-engineered motor that use anti-vibration rubber mounts to reduce noise and improve the tone it produces, while the Hushjet projection on the nozzle reduces turbulence to minimize noise as the air blows out of the device.

The Dyson HushJet Mini Cool has a honeycomb mesh that keeps dust and debris out, ensuring minimal maintenance needs over time. Like many similar devices, it’s designed to be used in hand, allowing you to easily direct the airflow wherever you want. However, it also comes with a neck dock, which is basically a lanyard that has an integrated dock to stabilize the fan in place, allowing it to send cool air your way hands-free even when you’re on the move. The included charging dock can also be used as a stand, making it easy to set it down on the table at the local coffee shop or right next to you on a bench. They also sell an optional grip clip and a universal mount for attaching it to other objects for even more ways to use the handheld fan.

Inside, it houses a built-in 5,000 mAh battery that’s rated to keep it running for up to six hours between charges. Do note, that six hours is likely at the lowest setting, so you’re going to need to charge this multiple times if you plan to use it a fair amount.

Want one? The Dyson HushJet Mini Cool is available in three colorways, priced at $99.99.
